I learned how to write a review paper based on the knowledge of the subjects after attempted the integrated assignment. My knowledge of Business Enterprise, Principles of Accounting, Principles of Economics, Information Technology for Global Business and English has been significantly expanded to include global approach to the subjects issues. In fact, I found out that the practice of marketing, economic problems and account analysis of Secret Recipe business has become much more complicated due to the influence of going global to it. I updated my knowledge in such areas of local company going global as the impact of global factors to the handling, recording, and cash flow within the business operations, company management decision-making, strategies of choosing and entering new markets, international marketing mix elements, economic problems and many more. I also able to witness that the rules of entering international markets have changed in the business world in many aspects due to the presents of globalization opportunities and threats. I find that global marketplace has become more competitive to maximize profits because of the economic problems such as scarcity , substitute products and barriers to entry, the increasing forces of going global and technological advancement. All of this has affected the economic growth and the ways decision are taken in Secret Recipe. Furthermore, the most obvious thing that I learned from this integrated assignment was that the group learning experience. The group learning experience was an interesting exercise, this was the second time we had to work together as a group to achieve an outcome which we could all support and understand. I learned that good teamwork is the key to success in the integrated assignment when time and resources are limited. As everyone had their own point of view, many different ideas could be produced and I found the energy of group participation made me feel more energetic about contributing something to the group. I also noticed that a good and effective collaboration is important by we emulate learning and working situation from the “real world” which is where work is done by groups of people, rather than a lone individual toiling away in isolation and we also believe in the social construction of knowledge. We see collaboration can provide a lot benefits to us where everyone can contribute their strengths toward a common goal.
The learning experience that I learned from the TGC’s outlines is in the aspects of communication skills. For example, during the discussion between group members, all of us need to explain our own ideas and reflects on the survey ,which encouraged the members to communicate openly with one another. They are open to new ideas, diverse viewpoints, and the variety of individuals present within the group. We also practiced to listen carefully to others, asked questions to clarify others’ ideas and emotions and express our feelings in an open but non-threatening way. Now that my communication skills have been improved as a result of engaging in group discussions, I able to communicate effectively in the future which would brings a healthy climate and an effective process can be followed. Moreover, my interpersonal skills also have developed. I found frequent discussions that took place during class break which often held at Taylor’s University Library very motivating and encouraging. Although at first I was not that interested to participate in them, gradually I started to contribute to group discussion as well which has developed my self-confidence and communication skills. Specific tasks were shared out amongst members of my team. For example, my tasks were to survey the location, Secret Recipe Sunway Pyramid, document the visit with images and produce a report on the visit based on Business Enterprise’s requirements. I have seen more active collaboration and have heard much less grumbling over “who contributed what” in this assignment than other collaborative assignment I’ve used as they understand the importance of team dynamic more. Furthermore, this integrated assignment has enhanced my thinking and problem solving skills. I able to provide an explicit and integrated focus on critical thinking, and problem solving skills in all aspects of the assignment which are from the preliminary planning for the assigned tasks, throughout the assignment content and instruction. This assignment requires me to use some creativity to address issues represented in the case as the research articles provide a complex example that has several elements entwined. I also need to incorporate many questions into the discussion and asking for greater detail so that I able to define and analyze problems to arrive at effective solutions. For example, I analyze countless articles regarding local business going global in many aspects such as ways to sustain in global market and benefits and disadvantages of going global. Thus, its forced me to practice problem solving skills and thinking creatively and critically as I need to interpret the data based on the assignment requirements. The importance of creativity and “thinking out of the box” was especially highlighted as I need to find efficient and innovative way to sustain the Secret Recipe’s business in global market. For example, using Technology of Support Customer Relationship (IBM) in the customer service system is the result of creative thinking.
These learning experiences that I gained from this integrated assignment will positively contribute to the level of my future employability. The main skills and knowledge obtained during the integrated assignment can be summarized as forming a global mindset, communication skills, creative thinking, analytical skills and the ability to spot global marketing opportunities. The global mindset had truly benefit me which I had formed towards the issues of local company going global in general. For example, I learned that the traditional decision making mindset of managers and insufficient customer service would not be able to meet the challenges of international level present for businesses. Now that my communication skills have been improved as a result of engaging in a group discussions I have a commutative edge in the work market as a business graduate over most of other business graduates. As a part of my formed global mindset I also believe that during the classes I have obtained necessary knowledge to help me to spot and utilize global marketing opportunities in a most efficient manner. This knowledge would benefit me as a professional business manager as well because I would be able to utilize global marketing opportunities in a cost effective manner.
